Two trail bikes that compete directly on price and intent. The Giant Trance X is the value standard - Maestro suspension, 135 mm rear / 150 mm front, six sizes, top trim under $8,000. The Cannondale Habit takes a slightly different angle: 130 mm rear, 140 mm front, lighter overall, with Proportional Response geometry that adjusts chainstay length per size. Neither is the bike for serious enduro days. Both are excellent for daily trail riding where climbing matters as much as descending.
$3,200 - $7,500
Best for: Trail riders who want 150 mm front travel and Giant's price-per-spec advantage
$2,800 - $7,500
Best for: Trail riders who prioritise climbing efficiency, playful handling, and a lighter overall bike

The Habit and Trance X line up closely on stack at every size but the Trance X reaches 5-10 mm further at every comparable nominal size. A Trance X Medium (615/455) and Habit Medium (612/450) are close enough that crossing brands works for most riders. The Trance X offers an M/L which the Habit does not - riders who fall between Medium and Large on the Habit have to choose between Habit M (612/450) and Habit L (628/477), a meaningful jump. At the top, the Trance X XL (650/505) reaches further than the Habit XL (650/500) at the same stack.
Buy the Trance X if your trails are rougher, faster, or steeper - the extra 5 mm of rear travel and 10 mm of front travel meaningfully change what the bike can take. Buy the Habit if you climb as much as you descend, prefer a playful feel, or want the lightest 130 mm trail bike at this price. The Trance X is the more capable bike. The Habit is the lighter, faster-feeling one. Both are excellent value next to anything from Trek or Specialized, and the price difference is small enough that the choice comes down to travel preference and dealer access.
Giant Trance X - more travel at both ends adds margin on rough descents
Cannondale Habit - lighter weight and Proportional Response geometry favour climbing and tighter natural trails
