The two American flagship aero-light bikes go head to head. The Tarmac SL8 fuses Tarmac climbing with Venge aero into one frame; the Madone SLR Gen 8 ditches the H1.5 / H2 fit split for a single Road Race geometry and the new IsoFlow tube. Both win WorldTour stages. Geometry, weight, and integrated-cockpit fit decide which one suits you.

Tarmac runs traditional 44-61 cm seat-tube sizing; Madone Gen 8 uses XS-XL letter sizing plus the new ML in between. A Tarmac 56 (558/391) sits very close to a Madone ML (562/389) on both axes - that ML size is Trek's answer to the old 56 H1.5 fit and lands almost identically to Specialized's 56. Riders on a Tarmac 54 should look at Madone M (546/384); 58 riders move to L (582/394).
Choose the Tarmac SL8 if you want the lighter, more versatile race frame and the largest dealer network for fit support. Choose the Madone SLR Gen 8 if your races are flat, fast, and your 56 cm H1.5 used to be perfect - the new ML size, IsoFlow compliance, and 32 mm tire room are real upgrades over the SL8 for aero-focused riders who don't climb every day.
Trek Madone SLR Gen 8 - IsoFlow tube plus 32 mm tires take more chatter out than the Tarmac SL8.
Specialized Tarmac SL8 - 130-300 g lighter at the frame and complete-bike level wins on hilly road races.
